The song “Don’t Cry” by Guns N Roses is one the best song they have produced in their career. I chose this song because it has some emotional and sad story behind it, the song itself has great lyrics and music which make this song really great.
The song genre is rock, the pace of the audio make audience feel that the song is hard rock but in few places it feels like that song is a mixture of hard and soft rock. The music and lyrics both reflects similar genre, the lyrics are emotional, sad and the music also have some touch of hard rock in some places to match with lyrics lines. Various hard rock instruments have used in this song music to reflect the genre. The music video of this song reflects same genre as lyrics and music, video is about love and hates relation and actually found out that its real story of lead singer AXL Rose.

The editing of the video is done keeping in mind that the song genre is rock. The pace of the cuttings used in video sometime get faster and sometime slower due to the song is mixture of hard and soft rock there. When higher tune music come up then the cutting and editing is fast than usual, but when the lower tune music comes up the cutting and editing gets slower. Special effects are used in two or three places.
The mise-en-scene used according to songs genre, in most shots rock inspired cloths has been used for men. As u can see in below screen shot that long hair, leather jeans, black shoes has been used to represent rock genre. Almost every prop used in this video has some relation to rock genre e.g. rock instruments, classic cars, use of drug, alcohol and cigarettes.
Lead singers and band members are shown in video as main music video character, almost every character has a style which reflects their music genre e.g. Rose shown wearing jeans which is quiet popular in rock culture.
This music video is like short film, it has its starting point where the song started with background, and it has ending point where video end with clear message. One ideology seems dominant in whole video, and that is difficulties faced by band in their private life and the impact they had on their life. They have tried to present internal image of their life’s, and the reason they have many scandals.
The main guitarist Slash of Guns N Roses shown as an icon, his reputation of being most famous guitarist in rock genre led his image as an icon. Intertextuality have used to develop background story of this song, the reference is from same band from the song called November Rain, where main characters shown getting married. I think references have used to relate songs to each other, as in this song November Rain shown as the initial story where couple gets married and fell in love. On the other hand in this music video they have shown as getting separate and the troubles married they just had.
The video relates itself to song lyrics and music clearly without any doubt, on the whole time during watching video it keeps in viewer mind that what they are watching and why.
